A Tasting: Telling Stories Through Chocolate
On Tuesday, February 10th, I gave a talk and chocolate tasting at the Frederick County Division of Aging & Independence 50+ Community Center on Taney Avenue. To our surprise, the event was fulled booked, with over thirty people filling the room.
I really enjoyed detailing the process of bean-to-bar chocolate making as well as the development of our small business. Before the event, we put together gift bags for everyone attending that included one of our menus and three chocolate samples: Jane Eyre, The Count of Monte Cristo, and Frankenstein. I was extremely impressed that everyone tried The Count of Monte Cristo with no complaints, porcini mushrooms and all!
Although I’ve given talks in the past (about the historical fiction graphic novels I’ve written and illustrated), this was my first time giving one about Open Book Chocolates. I have at least one more talk planned for later this year, so I’m looking forward to adapting this presentation and tasting for a new audience.
My Big Finds Pop-Up
On Valentine’s Day (Saturday, February 14th), we once again set up our pop-up inside My Big Finds. My Big Finds is a fun and unique small business that helps support other small businesses. As a fellow small business, we very much appreciate My Big Finds’s enthusiasm and support. Over the years, I’ve discovered that one of the greatest joys of being a small business is collaborating with and supporting other small businesses!
Whenever we’re at My Big Finds, we have the opportunity to meet a variety of customers — from ones that have only just discovered us to ones who have purchased our chocolate bars many times. It’s so much fun chatting with these customers about everything from the new Wuthering Heights movie, to the book clubs they participate in, to what flavors they’re buying as gifts and for whom, and beyond.
